need help on new guitar

Hey guys, i am a player that plays a lot of creed and metallica etc. that sort of style, and im on the fence between an ESP LTD fx 260, an epiphone les paul standard, a PRS tremonti SE, or a Jackson WRXT Warrior metallica black

  • All of these are very different sounding guitars with different necks.  What is most important is the neck.  It should be a comfortable fit for your hand, play both barre chords and single notes easily, and string bends should be smooth and comfortable.  My guitars are: an esp ltd fm100, a Gibson The Paul 2, and a fender standard tele.  The Esp is my favorite neck, its the extra thin U shape.  I have big hands, size 15 ring finger, so the tele is a little narrow for me, at least for chords.  The Paul is almost as good as the esp, but the frets are different, and in my opinion not as comfortable.  Ironic that my esp is my favorite and the least expensive guitar I own.  I am VERY impressed with esp.  Next are the pickups. You like metal and heavy sounding distortion.  I recommend the esp, not because its my favorite, but because they deal primarily with metal guitarists and their pickups are either active, or at the very least hot.  Of course, if you like good clean sounds with lots of harmonic undertones and a full harmonic register, I would go more toward the PRS.  You can get a good range from their pickups and your pedals can do the rest.  Esp would be fine if the PUP's are not active, if they are, you lose all those sweet harmonics and nice full mids.  I hate active pickups!  another choice that you might consider is the Ibanez Xyphos.  its a lot like the jackson with Deactivator pickups, all the metal grind without sacrificing clean harmonics and a rich full tone.  Really a very sweet guitar for metal heads.

  • I have the PRS Tremonti SE and I HIGHLY recommend the guitar. Some people have changed out the pickups to suit their playing style but I personally kept them in. I play a lot of the same style of music and it does really well. The only downside is that the tuners are liiiitle bit weak on mine. My 3rd string tends to go out after about 10-20 minutes of playing if I really abusively bend it (2&1/2 bend stuff).
